The Shamrock Shuffle is an 8K (5 milesish) in Chicago, IL. This was my first year that I was going to run in it, so I was excited. However when I got up it said that it was snowing. Looking out my window about 40 minutes or so West of the city, I was pumped. It wasn't bad at all. The roads were wet, but not icy. The snow wasn't coming down hard and all was well.

We get down there and me and another girl realize that our shoes, socks, and feet are completely soaked through... and I can't really feel my toes. We are also there early, so we have to wait outside for another hour before we can even get into our Start Corralls... Yeah... not going to happen. I opted to not risk frost-bite, blisters, and slipping on the slushy streets. I have no qualms about not racing, but am a little ticked off that by me... 40 minutes outside the city, the snow is now totally melted... Darn Lake effect!! Anyways, I got pics from the Chicago Tribune website... if you want to see more from the race, check it out here...

Wow. Those are beyond horrible weather conditions for a run. :O And for the record, that is NOT chickening out… it is simply caring about the future use of your feet. I would have done the exact same in your situation. <3
